Renewing your passport doesn’t have to be a complicated process, but it can be time-consuming. Knowing the steps and having the necessary documentation ready ahead of time can help make the application process go more smoothly.

Learn more about what documents you need and how to submit your passport renewal application here.

Renewing a passport is an easy process that can be done either online or by mail. If your passport was issued within the last 15 years and you still have the same name, you can renew it by mail. Here’s how:

1. Gather Necessary Documents

In order to renew your passport, you must fill out Form DS-82 and gather the necessary documents.

You will need proof of U.S. citizenship, such as an old passport, a certified copy of your birth certificate, or a Certificate of Naturalization.

You will also need to provide a photocopy of your current driver’s license or government-issued identification card.

2. Fill Out the Form

Form DS-82 is available online at the State Department website. Fill out the form carefully and make sure all information is accurate.

If you are unable to print out the form, you can request one by mail.

3. Mail-in Application

Once you have filled out the form and gathered the necessary documents, place them in an envelope and mail them to the address listed on the form.

Be sure to include the required fee and a self-addressed, stamped envelope so that your passport can be returned to you.

4. Wait for Approval

It can take up to 8 weeks for your passport to be processed and returned. You can check the status of your application online.

Renewing a passport is a simple process that can be completed in a few steps. By following these steps, you can ensure that your passport renewal is processed quickly and efficiently.
