Hello folks! Mani here. The guy who applied to the same five tech companies for two months straight.
Then discovered an entire universe of other employers specifically seeking NRI talent.
I returned in 2017 with tunnel vision. Applied exclusively to Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and a couple of Indian tech giants. Created application echo chamber. Achieved spectacular failure through lack of diversity.
Global tech companies actively recruit returning talent. I focused exclusively on these initially. Both succeeded and failed in my approach.

Google India
Engineering leadership, Product roles
Highlight cross-market expertise
Applied 7 times before getting interview
Microsoft IDC

Emphasize global product knowledge
Initial rejection, success through referral
Amazon India
Operations innovation, ML/AI roles
Focus on scalability experience
Long hiring process with multiple interviews
I applied repeatedly to these companies with identical resumes.
Eventually realized each values different aspects of international experience. Created customized applications emphasizing relevant experience for each.
Response rate improved dramatically.
Pro tip: These companies often have internal returnee programs not advertised publicly. Network with current employees to discover these opportunities.

Final Thoughts From a Company Exploration Expert
The Indian job market offers diverse opportunities for returning NRIs across far more companies than typically considered. I learned this through limiting then expanding my search.
I went from company tunnel vision to opportunity expansion. Eventually. After creating enough application rejections in one sector to fill employment history museum.
Explore diverse organizations. Highlight relevant experience for each. Network aggressively across sectors.
And remember: Many of the best opportunities may be with companies you haven’t initially considered. Unlike my initial approach of applying exclusively to global tech giants everyone knows.
Got questions about company opportunities for returning NRIs? Drop them in comments. My application limitations are your market expansion.
